Some annuals are difficult to transplant. By all means grow them, but have patience!
Wait till the soil is workable, e.g., not clumpy from spring rains, and start them once the ground has warmed to the temperature each prefers: California poppy, Shirley poppy, larkspur, nasturtium, portulaca, sweet pea, scarlet runner bean, love-in-a-mist, are good examples.

Sunflowers can be started indoors no earlier than 4 weeks before the set out date - wait and plant them outside.
